Built in 1893, this gate was originally intended for George Turner Marsh’s private property in Marin, but when he became responsible for Marsh‘s Japanese village as part of the 1894 California midwinter exposition, it was rerouted to the Japanese village. It remains in place as the entrance for the Japanese Tea Garden.
Construction Information
Built of Hinoki timber. This is one of a very few examples of roof brackets visible in San Francisco.
